On Friday 27 May 2022, the day before the fifth edition of the Kevin De Bruyne Cup, dozens of professional and former soccer players will descend on the grounds of KVE Drongen to compete. Captains Aster Nzeyimana, Erik Van Looy, Christophe Stienlet and Piet den Boer each send a brilliant team into the field. The first match starts at 3 pm, the final is scheduled for 6 pm. An Open Air Party with DJ Neon will start afterwards.
On Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 May 2022, the fifth edition of the KDB Cup will take place. A party edition, and so it may be something more, especially after the cancellations by corona in 2020 and 2021. On Friday, May 27 (for many people a bridging day after Ascension on Thursday), the KDB Cup vzw therefore organizes for the first time a BV tournament.
Captains Aster Nzeyimana, Erik Van Looy and Christophe Stienlet snared a lot of beautiful names. Signing already present: Joris Brys, Viktor Verhulst, Davino Verhulst, Andy Peelman, Jeremy Vandoorne, Michiel Callebaut, Guga Baúl, Kevin Janssens, Pedro Elias, Imke Courtois, Steven Defour, Filip Joos, Sam Kerkhofs, Maarten Breckx, Frank Boeckx, Jonas De Roeck, Bart Goor, Mo Messoudi and Rudi Smidts.
National coach Piet den Boer brings his Special Devils, the national soccer team for people with intellectual disabilities (founded in 2019), to Drongen.
At 3 pm, Team Christophe plays against Team Erik. At 4 pm, Team Aster and Team Piet will cross swords. The small final is at 5 pm, the final at 6 pm.
It will have happened: Erik Van Looy takes his leave in Drongen
Erik Van Looy (just turned 60) will stop playing soccer for good. The successful director and television presenter, notorious Antwerp supporter and since 1981 footballer with the Antwerp SK Muggenberg, ends in beauty, as captain of Team Erik on the eve of the KDB Cup. I wonder if he will be able to lead his team one more time to say goodbye with a tournament win...
Open Air Party with DJ Neon
After the BV tournament, DJ Neon takes over the party. The house-DJ of KAA Gent, of course also known from Tomorrowland and sets around the world, spins until 10 pm at the Open Air Party, also on the grounds of KVE Drongen.
Tickets for the BV-tournament & afterparty cost 5 euro. TICKETS ONLY IN PREVIOUS SALES and ONLINE on sale through this link.
The sale of tickets was recommended by the local security services so that the number of attendees would be limited. All proceeds will go to the non-profit organization Akibu, an initiative of Aster Nzeyimana's parents. They want to build a health center in the future in the Burundian region of his father's birth.
